Octoberville

History

Twenty years in Octoberville

The scavenger hunt has changed shape more than once. The story underneath it hasn't.

The Dalton house

Professor Dalton was a highly respected scientist in the small town of Octoberville, known for his research and development. His final project involved preserving youth, and he used his own co-workers as test subjects, until they all mysteriously died. The investigation found that Dalton had poisoned them, and his license was revoked on the spot.

He locked himself away with his wife, his daughter, his son, and his father, and kept experimenting, this time on his own family. One by one, they died. Losing them changed what he was after: not preserving youth anymore, but bringing the dead back. He spent his nights in the graveyard trying to do it.

A neighbor called the police when a smell settled over the town that wouldn't go away. When no one answered the door, they went in anyway, and what they found was enough that they left before finishing the search. No one has seen Professor Dalton since. No one knows if he's dead, or if he's still in that house.

Every October, Octoberville opens its gates around that house anyway: trick-or-treat candy, a gazebo, a Halloween store, a haunted mansion tour, a maze, and a graveyard that gives everyone chills for a reason.

The real history

Octoberville started in Second Life in 2005, run by Pixeltrix, LLC alongside sibling events like Christmasville and Crowbar, and it kept coming back nearly every year since. It was never just a scavenger hunt: puzzles, farming, hunting, sleuthing, fighting, and questing all lived in the same town at once. The Wall of Fame on this site is the record of who finished it, going back to the very first seasons.

Second Life is where Octoberville is from, but it's not where it's staying. The town is being rebuilt from scratch as its own game on Steam, the same mix of genres and the same mansion, without needing a Second Life account to walk through the gates.
